Good News for Pakistan from FATF
Pakistan’s clear indications of exit from the FATF gray list began to ring in Pakistan’s efforts. Pakistan began to receive clear indications of exit from the FATF gray list; the FATF meeting will begin on February 16 in the French city of Paris.
Pakistan needs 12 votes to join the white list, while China, Turkey and Malaysia have strong support. Pakistan needs four more votes but Pakistan has succeeded in convincing several countries.
On February 16, it will be decided to remove Pakistan from the gray list and bring it to the white list. Total votes required 12 out of 39 votes Pakistan has succeeded in convincing the United States, the European Union and appreciated Pakistan’s actions.
The lobbying that Pakistan has done on the FATF gray list issue is expected to result in 12 votes. There is strong support from China, Turkey and Malaysia, and there are clear indications that Pakistan will be removed from the gray list because the US, European Union praised Pakistani actions despite Indian opposition to the FATF December 2019 Beijing Summit.
The FATF had included Pakistan in the gray list in June 2018, Pakistan was given time till September 2019 under 27 Action Plans to ensure implementation of most points and action plans.
Pakistan was given 3 months’ time for further improvement in September 2019, as opposed to Pakistan’s US-South Asia policy.
